HISTORY
- Horse-drawn trams: 26 Sept. 1872 - 25 Aug. 1900
- Urban electric trams: 6 July 1893 - today
- Suburban tram lines: 21 Aug. 1899 - 1 Aug. 1941 (integrated with the urban tram lines)
- Lockwitztal tramway: 3 March 1906 - 18 Dec. 1977
- Funicular: 26 Oct. 1895 - today (originally steam operated, electrified: 1910)
- Suspension railway: 6 May 1901 - today
GAUGE
- Trams 1450 mm. (just wider than standard gauge)
- Suburban trams (mostly): 1000 mm. (until integrated into the urban system)
- Lockwitztal tramway: 1000 mm.
- Funicular: 1000 mm.
- Suspension railway: no tracks
TRAM PRESERVATION
There is a museum devoted to the history of trams in Dresden called the Straßenbahnmuseum Dresden. It has a large number of preserved tramcars, which are occasionally run on city streets . The museum is in Trachenberge, northwestern Dresden.
