ELEMENTS

bulletWebelements Source: Dr Mark J Winter, Department of Chemistry, University of Sheffield, Sheffield, England
An imaginative approach, linked to the Periodic Table, to the provision of detailed information on the physical and chemical properties of all the elements with atomic numbers 1 (H) to 112 (Uub), with some information on elements 113 (Uut) -118 (Uuo) as well. The name of each element is also given in French, German, Italian and Spanish.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

WATER QUALITY

bulletIntroduction to Surface Water Quality Modeling Source: Prof. John E. Parsons, NC State University, Raleigh NC, USA
University course handouts concentrating on the following aspects of surface water quality: weather; soil water and hydrology; erosion; nutrients; pesticides. Includes a table presenting the characteristics of pesticides sorted by common name.

HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES

CHEMICAL DATA SHEETS

INTERNATIONAL

bulletInternational Chemical Safety Cards (ICSCs) - An International Programe on Chemical Safety Project Source: National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Washington, DC and Cincinnati, OH, USA
Set of several hundred peer-reviewed datasheets produced jointly by WHO, the ILO, UNEP and the European Union.

ENGLISH

bulletCS Chemfinder Source: CambridgeSoft Corp., Cambridge, CA, USA
A search program enabling the user to locate basic chemical information (incl. CAS numbers and structural formula) about a large number of chemical substances, together with the identification of important links.
bulletThe Vermont SIRI Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) Collection Source: Vermont SIRI, Burlington, VT, USA
A very extensive collection of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), supplied by some 15 manufacturers/distributors of chemicals in the United States. MSDSs supply detailed information about chemical substances concerning their chemical, physical and toxicological properties, first aid and emergency handling information in case of unexepected exposure/poisoning/release and legislative controls (including exposure limits). A common search menu (by chemical name or CAS number) is available.

FRENCH

bulletLes fiches toxicologiques de l'INRS (Toxicological Data Sheets from the INRS) Source: Institut National de Recherche et de Sécurité (INRS), Paris, France [In French]

PESTICIDES

See also under Pest Control on the Agriculture index page.

bulletEXTOXNET - The EXtension TOXicology NETwork A collaborative network of toxicological information maintained by the University of California (Davis), Oregon State University, Michigan State University and Cornell University.
The server is at Oregon State University, Corvallis. Two searchable databases are important:
bulletPesticide Information Profiles (PIPS)
Collection of toxicological datasheets on pesticides.
bulletFactsheets
Factsheets on lead, acephate, chlorpyriphos, diazinon, lindane, ziram and a glossary.
bulletFarm Chemicals Handbook Source: Bayer Crop Protection, Kansas City, MO, USA (Link here for Bayer)
Datasheets on pesticides currently sold by Bayer Crop Protection.

MATERIALS SCIENCE

GENERALITIES

bulletMast: Materials Science and Technology - Teacher's Workshop Source: Materials Science and Engineering, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, IL, USA
Introductory notes on the science of materials, divided into modules on the following subjects: metals, semiconductors, concrete, ceramics, polymers, energy.
